Hi friends! This Saturday, October 10, is World Mental Health Day. It’s a day for talking openly about our hearts and minds, the anxious thoughts, the heavy seasons, the hurts we carry quietly. I see it in my classroom, I see it in my own family, and I’ve felt it in my own life. So I wanted to share something close to my heart today: a simple card, a verse I hold onto, and what I truly believe about where healing comes from.
The Foundation: Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
I chose this verse for my card because I keep coming back to it. Here is what I believe with my whole heart: true and lasting peace of mind comes from surrendering to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the One who renews our minds and heals our brokenness. I don’t say that lightly, and I don’t say it as a slogan. Scripture says it again and again, and I’ve seen it in my own life.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart.” All of it. Not just the tidy parts, but the worried, tired, hurting parts too. Trust isn’t a feeling we work up. It’s a choice to put our full weight on Someone who will not drop us.
“Lean not unto thine own understanding.” As a math teacher, I love when things add up! But so much of life doesn’t. Our own understanding runs out fast, especially at 2 a.m. when our thoughts are spinning. This verse gently tells us to stop leaning on what we can figure out and lean on Him instead.
“In all thy ways acknowledge him.” This is surrender: handing Him every part of our day, our plans, our fears and our story. And the promise that follows is so sweet: “he shall direct thy paths.” We don’t have to see the whole road. We only have to keep our hand in His.
He Renews Our Minds
I love that God doesn’t just tell us to “think happy thoughts.” He promises to change our thinking from the inside out:
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
Ephesians 4:23 says, “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” Second Corinthians 10:5 talks about “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” And Isaiah 26:3 promises, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” A mind that is fixed on Him is a mind He keeps. And when fear tries to take over, I remind myself of 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
He Heals Our Brokenness
Maybe you’re not just anxious. Maybe you’re hurting. Friend, He sees you.
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3 (KJV)
Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” In Isaiah 61, He came to “bind up the brokenhearted” and to give “beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” And Jesus Himself invites us: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). That is an open invitation, and it’s for you today.
Crafting: A Calming, Creative Gift
Now, you know I love to stamp! And I do believe quiet, meditative activities like crafting are good and important. Something happens when I sit down at my desk with a cup of coffee, ink up a stamp, and slowly color in a few little leaves. My breathing slows down. My thoughts quiet. It’s one of my favorite places to pray.
I think we love to create because we were made by a Creator. “So God created man in his own image” (Genesis 1:27), and “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works” (Ephesians 2:10). That creative spark in us? That’s Christ in us, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). So I treasure my stamping time as a gift from Him.
But I want to be honest with you: my craft desk isn’t where my healing comes from. Paper and ink can help me be still, but they can’t renew my mind or mend a broken heart. Only the Lord can do that. Crafting is a lovely place to rest; Jesus is the One who restores.
If you’d like a gentle way to spend some quiet time this weekend, here’s an idea: stamp or write out one verse that speaks to you. Keep it on your mirror or your desk. Or, if someone comes to mind who’s been struggling, you might make a simple card and send them a verse of hope. A few handwritten words can mean so much.
How I Made This Card
This one comes together quickly, which makes it a perfect project for a quiet afternoon. Here’s how I made it:
Measurements
- Berry Burst card base: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
- Bubble Bath layer: 4-5/8" x 3-3/8"
- Basic White layer: 4-1/2" x 3-1/4"
Steps
- Cut your Berry Burst card base, score it at 4-1/4" and fold it in half.
- Stamp the “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” greeting from the Courage & Faith stamp set in black ink in the center of the Basic White layer.
- Stamp the leaf sprig from Courage & Faith on each side of the greeting, so the verse is framed by leaves.
- Color in the leaves with Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Blends and the little berries with Berry Burst Stampin’ Blends. Take your time here. This is my favorite part, and it’s a sweet time to pray over the verse!
- Adhere the Basic White layer onto the Bubble Bath layer to create your focal point.
- Tie the light pink ribbon around the focal point and knot it.
- Attach the focal point to the front of the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Finish with a few Sunset Sparkle Sequins scattered around the leaves.

Free Printable: Renewed
I put together a free printable for you, “Renewed: Scriptures for Peace, Healing & a Renewed Mind.” It’s 20 verses (King James Version) on trust and surrender, a renewed mind, peace for the anxious heart, healing for the brokenhearted, and new life in Christ. Print it out, tuck it in your Bible, hang it on the fridge, or keep it on your craft desk like I do.

I also made a set of printable scripture cards: six bordered verses per page, sized to glue onto 3x5 index cards or print right on cardstock and cut out. There’s even a blank card for your own favorite verse.

All scripture in these free printables is from the King James Version (KJV). I chose the KJV because it’s in the public domain, which means I can share these verses freely for you to download, print, and keep. Many modern translations are copyrighted and limit how they can be shared. Feel free to look up these verses in your favorite translation and write them on the blank card included!
A Little Note from My Heart to Yours
If your heart feels heavy today, please hear me: you are not too far gone, and you are not alone. Bring it all to Jesus, the worry, the hurt, the questions. Pour out your heart before Him (Psalm 62:8). And please don’t carry it by yourself. Reach out to your pastor, a trusted friend or someone in your church family. Let them pray with you and walk alongside you.
His mercies “are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:23). I’m holding onto that promise with you.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments: what verse do you hold onto when your mind won’t settle?
With love and prayers,
Kelly
